Memoriam of
KS Riding Horses

Cole, foaled in 2003, had been with us since 2012. In that time, he had been used as a lesson horse on a continuous basis helping; those who have never ridden before, those who used to show, and those who are just getting back into riding. He is a "been there done that" kind of horse. Not only has he been used for lessons; but he has been leased out, been shown, gone overnight camping, and hauled out to different trails in the state. Cole enjoyed working in the arena and was a fun horse out on the trail. He was a horse that quickly won over your trust and will go through any obstacle you asked him to! Cole truly set the standard of quality in what we at KS Riding look for in horses for our program. Cole gave a lot to his students and even to the horses that he lived with. He touched many hearts. Sadly, Cole passed away in 2019 due to Colic. Cole will always be remembered as Magic.

Grant was foaled in 2000, he had been with us since 2012. Grant has been used for lessons and leasing, has been shown in games, and also gone overnight camping. Grant went to 4H county fair and even was used as a demonstration horse for a Vet Tech class. Grant exceled out on the trail. He could cover a lot of ground, was very dependable and was a comfortable ride. Grant had a soft spot for kids and appeared to only tolerate the adults. Grant truly enjoyed walking through the woods looking for a new adventure keeping his rider safe and sound. Grant was known for not being the most graceful and although he may stumble, he always took care of his rider. Grant and Cole were the best of friends. Frequently out in the pasture they never left one another’s side. Grant was given to one of his 4H leasers. She loved Grant very much as much and it was my Honor to keep them together. It was reported to KS Riding that Grant passed away in 2019. Cause unknown.

Spanky was foaled in 1999, She got donated to our program the summer of 2016. Spanky was a Tennesee Walking Horse. Spanky had a metabolic disorder which made her insulin resistant, similar to type 2 diabetes. That did not affect her shining personality and her abilities as an incredible riding horse. Spanky rode not only western but English as well. Spanky loved showing off her beautiful 4-beat gaits and cursing around the arena or on the trails. Spanky was shown at the 4H county fair and students enjoyed being able to utialize her showmanship skills and knowledge. Spanky was returned to her previous owners in 2018.

Buffy was foaled in 2001. Buffy came to KS Riding in 2017 and was used in our 4H leasing program and went to Couny Fair with her leaser. Buffy was also used in the KS Riding program as a lesson horse. Buffy enjoyed getting groomed and receiving treats the most. Buffy was fun to take out on the trails as well as run in the arena. Although buffy was with KS Riding for a short time many youth still ask about her! Buffy was sold to a 4H leasing family.

Red came to KS Riding in 2023. Red came to KS riding needing to gain weight and get some retraining done to him. While with KS Riding Red enjoyed interacting with his students and absolutely loved being the Grandpa of the herd. Red and Major were good buddies and often could be seen hanging out with one another. After rehabbing with KS Riding Red found his forever retirement family on a 300 acre farm where he pals around with two other senior horses and takes care of his senior rider and her two grand children. Red will be missed at KS Riding!
